Community Visitors Scheme
The Community Visitors Scheme is a Federal Government Initiative funded through the Department of Health & Ageing. YMCA of Sydney is a major participant in the scheme, matching volunteer visitors with individual nursing home residents. The scheme provides a highly rewarding and satisfying volunteer experience whilst alleviating the loneliness and isolation experienced by older and disabled persons living in local nursing homes. Be a friend and share your interests and your life with someone new. And let someone new share their interests and life with you. Volunteers are offered training and receive ongoing support even before being first introduced to their new found friend.
Residents and visitors are individually matched, ensuring close compatibility in personality, interests and backgrounds.YMCA of Sydney is seeking volunteers to join the scheme. It is open to men and women of any age who have an hour or so to spare each fortnight. All you need is an interest and empathy with older people. There are absolutely no costs to volunteers participating in the scheme. The training and support backup is completely free of charge.
