YMCA Epping Increases Focus On Family With Announcement Of $1.1 Million Redevelopment And Family Fun Day This Weekend
Monday, 30th of January 2012
YMCA Epping is excited to announce it has commenced a $1.1 million redevelopment of the Centre, and invites the local community to come down and see the changes for themselves at its Family Fun Day this Saturday 4th February.
For more than 50 years, the YMCA Epping has been a cornerstone of community sport and recreation, being a leading provider of gymnastics in NSW as well as offering indoor sports competitions and vacation care to local residents.
The redevelopment, which commenced in December 2011, will see the Centre transformed into a modern, multi-sport facility and community hub and increase its focus on family fitness. This focus is vital in light of the fact that 74.3% of young people aged 11-24 value family relationships more than friends, school, employment or financial security.[i]
The Y is investing a total of $600,000 in the upgrade, with a $101,000 investment being made by the NSW State Government (Community Building Partnership Grant 2010) and through community fundraising.
“Families remain as a top value and priority for young people and YMCA Epping will now be a place where the whole family can come together and be fit and active,” said Rod Nadwie-Smith, Centre Manager at YMCA Epping.
“At the end of the day, the Y is about building strong people, families and communities, and we want YMCA Epping to ultimately be that hub of community connection and activity, where people of all ages and abilities can come together and adopt healthier lifestyles.”
The $1.1 million upgrade will see the creation of a new, state-of-the-art Community Health and Fitness Centre, new community meeting spaces and upgraded toilets and change rooms. A host of other internal and external upgrades are also taking place including a plan to climate control the gymnastics program area.
All of this follows the recent revitalisation of the Centre’s façade, significantly improving the look and presence of YMCA Epping.
On Saturday 4th February from 8am to 2pm, Y members and the broader community will have a chance to see some of the changes that have already occurred over the holiday period, as well as engage in a range of fun activities, at the Centre’s Family Fun Day.
“There will be plenty of opportunities to explore the new-look site and find out about our new Community Health and Fitness Centre,” Nadwie-Smith said.
“There will be something for every member of the family to enjoy including free classes for the kids and fitness challenges for mum and dad.”
Some of the day’s free highlights include:
- Jumping castle
- BBQ
- Kindergym trial classes (bookings required)
- Gymnastics trial classes (bookings required)

There will also be a host of special offers and prizes to be won on the day.
