With The Y's Support Olivia Has Learnt To Walk
Friday, 28th May 2010
Olivia is 2 ½. And was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, commonly known as “Brittle bone syndrome”.
Just Before Olivia was born Robert had to give up work due to a heart condition. Both Robert and Kelly are full time carers.
"Ongoing surgeries, specialist support and travel have severely impacted on our finances so without physio and rehab at the pool, Olivia would not have been able to develop the skills needed to learn to stand and walk in a risk free environment."
The Y’s Fee assistance program helps Olivia and her family visit the Centre daily.
“I’m not the type to ask for handouts, the Y approached us to see how they could help.My daughter took her first steps here at the pool; the Y’s support has made a huge difference in our lives.
Our time here is really special, it also gives Kelly and I the chance to stay active and have a break from full time caring.”
Robert. Olivia's dad.
