Frequently Asked Questions
- You are called the Young Men's Christian Association - but I thought anyone could be involved with the YMCA. Am I right?
-
In the years after its founding in 1844, the Young Men's Christian Association focused on creating opportunities for fellowship, education and mutual support for young male Christians, especially those who had moved from their homes to take up work in the towns and cities of England during the industrial revolution.
But after exhibiting at the Great Exhibition of 1851 the YMCA grew rapidly to become a worldwide Movement and the range and scope of our work broadened to include women and men of all ages.
Today, a defining factor of the YMCA is the scope and diversity of its programs; we service all segments of the community.
- How do I find my local YMCA?
- You can find your local YMCA easily on this website. Click on the 'find your Y' tab on the bottom menu, the map highlights the location of all of our Centres.
