Father's Day 2010
Most people know that Father's Day is an important annual celebration of the important role that fathers and male role models play in the lives of our children and communities. Few people will know that 2010 marks the 100th Anniversary of Father's Day and that Father's Day was in fact, founded by the YMCA.
After attending a Mother's Day event in 1909, Sonora Louise Smart of Washington USA challenged her local YMCA to recognise the role of Fathers in a similar way to that of Mother's Day. Hence forth, Father's Day was born out of the Spokane YMCA the following year in 1910.
100 years on and Father's Day remains a significant and important event.
